We also deal with the manufacture of radio frequency identifiers; combined with other safety features (e.g. a hologram), in a self-adhesive form they are excellent for the solution of various product protection problems. Their main areas of use include RFID labels inside cars enabling vehicle identification while in motion, airport boarding cards and luggage identifiers.
What is RFID?
RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) is a technology intended for automatic identification and data communication, enabling the storage and forwarding of important data by means of RFID labels and tools. RFID labels can be fixed or installed in the object to be identified. These objects include, for example, goods or components.
Types of RFID
Passive RFID
Passive labels do not have their own energy source. The radio frequency signal from the reader generates sufficient power in the antenna to activate the small CMOS IC on the board, which sends a respond upon data query. Thus the antenna has a special design: in addition to collecting the necessary energy, it has to forward the response signal. The response signal is generally and individual identifier, but the label may also contain a small memory to forward its data to the reader upon query. The working range of passive boards is from 2 millimeters to a few meters, in other words, data can be read from them at this distance, depending on the radio frequency used. This is the most widely used type due to the low production cost.
Active RFID
Active RFID labels or signalers have a built-in energy source that provides sufficient power to supply any IC and for signaling. They provide a bigger working range of up to 10 meters and have a better memory capacity compared to the passive version, and may even be able to record the data sent by the receiver. Some active labels have an impulse-type operation to save energy, and thus are able to operate for up to 10 years.
